Employers Liability
Employers' Liability Insurance is compulsory for all businesses as required under the Employers' Liability Act in England, Scotland and Wales and your Duty of Care to your Employees..
It is, therefore, illegal to trade without Employers' Liability cover.
The cover provided allows businesses to protect themselves against compensation claims made by an employee who sustains injury due to an employer's negligence.
You are required by the Employers' Liability Act to retain all Employers' Liability Certificates for a minimum period of 40 years...Failure to do so may result in a fine.
The law states you must have a minimum unit of indemnity of £5,000,000. Most Insurance Companies automatically provide up to £10,000,000.
Should you have a number of employees working in confined areas you may need to increase this limit.
